TalkTalk Telecom Group plc (usually refered to as TalkTalk Group, trading as TalkTalk) is a company which supplies pay television, telecommunications, Internet access, and mobile network services to companies and consumers in the UK. It had been founded in 2003 as a subsidiary company of Carphone Warehouse and was demerged as a standalone business in March 2010. Its headquarters are in London.
Initially just a supplier of fixed line telephony services to consumers, TalkTalk now offers mobile and fixed telephony and broadband services to consumers under the TalkTalk brand, and telephony and broadband services to business customers under the TalkTalk Business brand. Like some other UK broadband suppliers, TalkTalk has invested in a unique exchange infrastructure, known as local-loop-unbundling (LLU), with 92% of its customer base unbundled as of December 2012.
The firm continues to be rated multiple times among the worst landline and broadband providers
The acquisition of Opal Telecom in November 2002 of the Carphone Warehouse gave it its own switching network providing access to the landline network of BT Wholesale. An initial trial was conducted in the Manchester area, and TalkTalk established with a guarantee that calls would be more affordable than with their sensed main competition BT three months afterwards. TalkTalk Broadband was started in November 2004.
On 11 April 2006, TalkTalk started a new broadband service that has been boosted as “Free broadband eternally“ and which offered up to 8 Mbit/s with a 40 GB monthly usage limit for life to all or any subscribers to their Talk3 International telephone tariff at £20.99/month. States comprised signing up for a minimum 18–month contract and a £29.99 initial connection fee. In a Sunday Times interview, TalkTalk chairman Charles Dunstone admitted that Carphone‘s TalkTalk business was “fighting to make do“ with the more than 400,000 customers who signed up for high-speed Internet access in the time since the service started.
This had risen customers by January 2009

The business offers IPTV services including access to YouView, and is just one of seven partners in the television enterprise YouView. It first inherited an IPTV service in the purchase of Tiscali, and renamed it TalkTalk TV in January 2010. The service shut to new business that year and in August 2012 introduced its new service including YouView, TalkTalk Plus TV.
